Vinegar

I'm constantly amazed at how much vinegar is capable of (and baking soda and milk and eggs, now that I think about it, but that's another story...)! I certainly haven't exhausted all of its uses, but here's a little vinegar story for ya...

We recently bought the "light green" box of a particular dishwasher soap, and it had ruined our glasses - or so we thought. It created this terrible film on all of our dishes, but it was the most obvious on our glasses. After lobbying the company for a free pack of their "ActionPacs" (as the customer reviews for these were much higher than for what we had bought), they suggested that we do the following:

- Remove everything from dishwasher, especially metal items.
- Place a bowl on bottom rack of dishwasher and fill with 2 cups white vinegar.
- Put glasses with filming on top rack of dishwasher.
- Double check that all metal items are removed as vinegar can adversely affect them.
- Run through a complete cycle without detergent.

Skeptical but optimistic, we tried it. WOW! We cannot stop commenting on our newly cleaned glasses. Yes, it's a little sad, but for the last two months we have been explaining to our guests with embarrassment that yes, the glasses are clean, we just bought this new dishwasher soap...

And, we will be receiving our free ActionPacs in a few weeks. :)
