On Wednesday morning, we decided to take it easy and have a leisurely journey to San Luis Obispo, where Christine’s mom’s cousin and family live. We had breakfast at a café in Pacific Grove, which we’ve decided is our favorite town on the Monterey Peninsula. We walked around town and a bit and then drove the short route to SLO.
We stopped a few times to take pictures of the landscape. There was an unbelievable number of vineyards in the area, and we picked up a few local bottles of wine…for after the baby comes. ☺ We learned that this green oasis we’ve been surrounded by is actually very seasonal. We came just in time; a few months earlier or a month later, and central California will be hot and brown. It’s sort of reassuring that it’s not always paradise here.
When we got to SLO, we drove around the Cal Poly campus and then hung out by Laguna Lake before meeting Tim and Leslie. We had dinner with them and their beautiful children at their house. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen then, but it was a lot of fun to reconnect with fellow Wheaton grads and talk about places and people we have in common.
Leslie works for Lifewater International, a Christian organization that does water development projects. Taylor is in the process of applying to volunteer to use his skills with the organization, and it was neat to hear more about the group.
We woke up early this morning and played “Shamrock Memory” with the 7-year-old twins. They let us wear two of the homemade shamrock pieces because, in our haste, we were not wearing any green on this St. Patrick’s Day! This allowed us to avoid threatened pinches. ☺
We’re heading home now after a very relaxing and rejuvenating trip. We’re so thankful for the ability to take this trip; it’s been a wonderful time to talk and dream and plan.
