We woke up this morning and made ourselves some fresh-squeezed orange juice from the oranges that we bought a few days ago. There is nothing better than good, fresh-squeezed juice. We took off around 9:30 for Big Sur, which is about 45 minutes from Monterey, in search of some good hiking and coastline.
We hiked at a state park and saw beautiful waterfalls and flowers. We then proceeded another 45 minutes or so down Highway 1. This road is almost entirely along the coast, and the views are breathtaking (and sometimes a little scary!) We arrived at Sand Dollar Beach, where you are supposed to be able to find jade and, presumably, sand dollars, but both were in short supply. It was still a beautiful walk down to the beach, and we got to enjoy the sun and the sand.
After spending the day out there, we returned home and ate a late lunch of baguette slices and freshly picked avocado. It was delicious. Not too much later, we ate a light dinner and then went to Ghirardelli’s on Cannery Row for some dessert. We walked Fisherman’s Wharf and heard some seals talking to each other in the harbor. The temperature here is so consistent; even though it was dark and drizzly, it was still 60 degrees. We feel like we could stay here for another several days and still fill up our time with new things to do and see.
