We camped about 20 miles southeast of Flagstaff near Lake Mary on National Forest land. The area was beautiful with ponderosa pines, nice open fields, and a view of Humphrey's Peak. The night was quite cold (27 degrees), but we were pretty warm most of the night. Christine said she was nice and toasty in her sleeping bag... mostly because she cinched the drawstring around her face nearly all the way shut. It's hard to be cold in a cocoon! Anyway, the stars were incredible! We were able to clearly see the Milky Way galaxy and a more stars than we've seen in many years. Overnight, we heard a pack of coyotes howling a few times, getting closer and closer and then finally becoming silent. I figured they just went away, but we found some fresh poo near our tent in the morning. Those savages.
