
This is the inside of that little room. The black is creosote build up from an estimated 200 years of cooking fires inside this little room. Floors were made with clay, and when the floor got dirty, they simply put another layer of clay on the floor. Apparently, that was easier than sweeping. (They know this because some rooms have more than 30 layers of clay with dirt and debris between each layer.)
