For Martin Luther King Day weekend, Taylor and I went to LA to visit some friends. Our first stop was Malibu, CA, to see Taylor's cousin Megan at Pepperdine University. What a crazy place! The campus itself is breathtaking, and the surrounding area isn't bad, either! We're told the cheapest home in Malibu goes for six million dollars. Megan said she's seen quite a few celebrities; around there, it's no big deal. We then went to visit my friend Jessica in LA. She works with Teach for America, a group that sends college grads to work in inner city schools for two years. She's definitely on my list of people I admire most - the movies we see that show inner city schools actually glamorize the situation; you should hear her stories! But, she's thriving and, I believe, is truly making a difference. It was great to see Jess - we're only an eight-hour drive apart! She took us to the Getty Center, Beverly Hills, and UCLA. All in all, we liked LA more than we expected, but it is a HUGE place that costs a lot! In this picture is Liz, Megan's roommate; Megan; and Taylor. To those that might care - we did see the "Hollywood" sign in the hills, but we didn't go to the actual town - we didn't want to be too touristy! Posted by Picasa
